Hulet Eju means "Both Hands" in English and, "sse" means "People of God", and the word "Enesse" has a separate meaning which roughly translates to "the name of Many".
Hulet Eju Enesse is a district located in the east Gojam zone of Amhara region. It is bordered by Sede district in the south, Siso Goncha district in the west, Bibugn district and West Gojam zone in the east, and south Gondar in the north.
The total surface area of the district is 90,340 hectares and it includes 31 kebeles. Its population is 153808. The terrain of the district is 65% plain, 20% hilly and 15% mountainous. The climate of the district is 57 or upland 43 lowland. The rainfall distribution ranges from 1100-1189 ml and the average temperature ranges from 8-20 degrees (C).
Motta is a town in the north western part of Ethiopia, It is located in the Misraq Gojjam Zone of the Amhara Region on the secondary road that links Dejen with Bahir Dar overlooking the Abay River, 1500-4000 meters above sea level, Motta is divided into 6 kebeles, The land area of the town is 15,999,800 kare meter (1599.98 hectare), with a population size of 137,410, the climate is humid with an average of 14 - 20 degrees (C) also with 1,100-1,189 mm. One local landmark is "the Broken Bridge", a stone footbridge built by foreign stoneworkers during the reign of Emperor Fasilides.
The Town was founded in 1747 E.C. When we look at the name of the "Motta", we find two major historical chapters. the first is that the name originated from the monk called "Aba Motsa" who lived in the area. the second and the most acclaimed origin of the name is that it was named Motta because princess Welete Israel, empress Mintiwab's daughter died in gondar after building saint George's church in motta, the amharic translation of the word of death is "mot" and the name "Motta" refers to the princess' death.
